Multiple kitchen leaks, deteriorated fascia, damaged roof decking, and ineffective gutters made this Pittsburgh project a complete exterior water-management problem. The main roof was at least 20 years old, while the ages of the addition and porch roofs were unknown. My Pittsburgh Roofing replaced the roofing system, repaired damaged wood components, and installed approximately 145 linear feet of new seamless aluminum gutters and downspouts.
Project Overview
Location: Pittsburgh, PA 15218
Property: Two-story single-family home with an addition
Project: Full roof replacement, fascia repair, and gutter replacement
Approximate roof size: 13 squares
Approximate gutter length: 145 linear feet
Existing roof: Approximately 20-year-old 3-tab shingles
New roofing: GAF Timberline HDZ
Color: Fox Hollow Gray shingles with white gutters
Installation time: 3 working days
The Challenge
The homeowner had several leaks over the addition, including water entering the kitchen. Inspection and tear-off revealed areas of damaged decking and water intrusion. Portions of the fascia were rotten, and the old gutters had holes and poor drainage. Rainwater was not only reaching the interior—it was also collecting in the yard instead of being directed away from the house.
Inspection and Project Plan
The crew removed the existing roofing and replaced damaged decking before installing the new system. GAF Deck-Armor underlayment, ice-and-water protection, starter shingles, Timberline HDZ shingles, ridge ventilation, gutter apron, chimney flashing, and pipe flashings created the roof assembly. DCI edge vents supported intake airflow. Rotten fascia or soffit areas were repaired so the new white seamless gutters and downspouts had a sound, properly aligned base.

Final Result
The completed project corrected both sides of the water problem. The new roof stopped the kitchen leaks, and the new gutter system moved rainwater away instead of allowing it to collect in the yard. Repaired decking and fascia restored the supporting structure beneath the visible materials. The roof and drainage system were completed in three working days, and performance was checked after rainfall.
