Roof, Skylight, Gutter and Gutter Guard Replacement in Sewickley

This large Sewickley home combined several systems that all needed to work together: a 39-square roof, five skylights, extensive gutters, a wraparound porch, and attic ventilation. The existing roof was deteriorated, the ventilation was inadequate, water was staining the porch ceiling, and runoff from upper gutters was being discharged directly onto the porch roof. My Pittsburgh Roofing completed a coordinated replacement using GAF roofing materials, Velux skylights, seamless aluminum gutters, and Raindrop gutter guards.

Project Overview

  • Location: Sewickley, PA 15143
  • Property: Large two-story home with a wraparound porch
  • Project: Full roof replacement, five skylights, gutters, downspouts, and gutter guards
  • Approximate roof size: 39 squares
  • Approximate gutter length: 400 linear feet
  • Existing roof: Aged 3-tab asphalt shingles with inadequate ventilation
  • New roofing: GAF Timberline HDZ
  • Color: Pewter Gray shingles with white gutters
  • Installation time: 4 working days

The Challenge

The roof’s exact age was unknown and may have dated back many years. Its condition showed widespread deterioration rather than one isolated failure. Five existing skylights had to be replaced and integrated into the new roof. The existing gutters appeared undersized and worn, and their discharge pattern placed additional water on the lower porch roof. Poor ventilation and visible moisture staining added another layer to the project.

Inspection and Project Plan

The replacement plan treated the roof, skylights, ventilation, and drainage as one system. The crew removed the old roofing, repaired decking where necessary, and installed GAF Deck-Armor, ice-and-water protection, starter shingles, Timberline HDZ shingles, ridge ventilation, flashing, and edge metal. Five Velux skylights were installed with the appropriate roof integration. Approximately 400 linear feet of white seamless aluminum gutters, downspouts, and Raindrop gutter guards were then configured to move water away from the porch roof and building.

Work Completed

Final Result

The completed project produced a major visual transformation and corrected important functional issues. The roof now has a modern, integrated ventilation system, the five skylights are incorporated into the new roofing assembly, and the gutter layout directs water away from the porch roof instead of adding runoff to it. The Pewter Gray roof and white drainage system complement the home’s architecture, while the full replacement gives the owner a much stronger long-term exterior system.
